Talk Abstract:
The human hand is capable of fulfilling various everyday-life tasks using the combination of biological mechanisms, sensors and controls. It is attracting more and more research interest to build human-like robotic hands with similar dexterous manipulation, which can be of great help in humanoid robots, industry and healthcare. Human-robot skill transfer is of great importance in order to develop advanced multifingered manipulation planning and control systems by extracting human hand manipulation skills. This talk will discuss the research on recent approaches to analyze and recognize human hand motions using multi-sensory information and to transfer such capabilities into robotic hands.
Short CV:
Dr Zhaojie Ju is a Senior Lecturer in Intelligent Systems and Biomedical Robotics group, in the School of Computing at University of Portsmouth, UK. He previously held research appointments in University College London and University of Portsmouth, UK.
His research interests are in machine intelligence, robot learning, pattern recognition and their applications in robotic/prosthetic hand control, humanoid robot motion learning and human-robot interaction. He has been involved various projects supported by Overseas Research Student Award, EPSRC, HEIF4, European FP7, etc. He has published over sixty refereed international journals and conference papers in pattern recognition and intelligent systems, such as in IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, IEEE Sensors Journal and Pattern Recognition. He has been awarded several Best Paper Awards. He is a senior member of IEEE.
