Topic: Identify problems in workplaces, and find solutions – the application of the science of ergonomics.
Abstract：Our workplaces may not always be the perfect places that we hoped – various problems may arise – workers’ injuries, production stoppage, product defects, sales slowdown and increased repair costs. Many of the seemingly un-related issues may be contributed by one common cause – a mismatch between the various elements in the system and the human. The science of ERGONOMICS may help solve some of the problems.
This talk will introduce the science of ergonomics, and some of its common applications in workplaces. A systematic approach of identifying problems, quantifying problems, solving problems and evaluating the effect of the solutions will be discussed with a series research and application projects that we conducted/are conducting at the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. Some information of current ergonomics research trends around the globe including China will be shared. Discussions of future work in Chinese workplaces will be solicited among participants.
